Get a library card

To obtain a Waterford Public Library card, you must:

  • Be a Waterford or Quaker Hill resident.
  • Fill out and turn the application in at the Waterford Public Library at 49 Rope Ferry Road in person.
  • Be able to show proof of residency (street address) and have a photo ID. A driver's license is the preferred form of identification.
  • Children must be able to print their first and last names legibly on the application, and a parent/ guardian must sign their application as the responsible adult as well as accompany the child to the library when they apply for their card.

NOTE: Non-residents may use the Waterford Public Library according to the Connecticard statewide reciprocal borrowing program.  Non-residents regardless of their age must bring with them a valid and up-to-date library card from the public library serving the town in which they reside.

Get e-mail notifications

We are pleased to offer the following service: the library will e-mail you when items checked out at Waterford are “almost due”. You will also receive e-mails when the books you’ve placed on hold become available and when items are overdue.

Please note: if you choose to receive notices via e-mail, you will no longer receive other notifications. Once you sign up, please add waterfordnotices@seconnlib.org to your address book so that the notices will go directly to your inbox. The Waterford Public Library is committed to protecting your privacy and does not share e-mail addresses with third parties.

To receive these notifications, just send an e-mail to waterfordnotices@gmail.com with the word 'Notices' in the subject line. Please make sure to include your full name and street address in the body of the message and - you’ve got mail!

Manage my online account

You may access your online account only after you have logged in to the online library catalog. After you have entered your library card number and PIN (see below for more information about your password/PIN), you should see "My Account" in the dark blue bar across the top of the web page. After clicking "My Account", you will be able to review your account, renew your materials, and change your password/PIN.

The default password/PIN for all library cards is changeme. You may use this password/PIN or create a new personal password/PIN. If you want to create a new, personal password/PIN follow the steps below:

1. Click on the "Catalog" tab at the top of the library's home page. In the upper right corner, type the barcode number on your library card in the space provided.

2. For Password/PIN, type the word changeme.

3. Click on "Renew/Holds/Account Info".

4. Click on "My Account".

5. Click on "User PIN Change."

6. Your library card number should now appear in the 1st box.

7. Type the word changeme in the Password/PIN box.

8. Make up a Password/PIN that you can easily remember.  Your PIN should be at least 4 characters long and may include letters, numbers or a combination.

9. Type this into the "New PIN" box and then again into the "Re-enter New PIN" box.

10. Click on "Change Password/PIN".

11. If you have successfully changed your password/PIN you will get a message that says "PIN CHANGED."

12. If you receive any other message please call the library at 860-444-5805 for help.

Place a hold

  1. Log on to the library catalog and find the item which you would like to reserve.
  1. Click on the title.
  1. Click "Place hold".
  1. When prompted, enter your library card number and password/PIN.
  1. Choose a pickup location.
  1. Click "Place hold". If the hold is successful, a confirmation screen will appear.
  1. Click "OK" to return to the catalog.

Renew my materials

1. Log in to the library catalog by entering your library card number and password/PIN (See Manage my online account for more information about your password/PIN).

2. Click on “My Account” in blue text on the top of the web page.

3. Click on “Renew my materials.”

4. You may renew all of your materials by selecting the “Renew all” button and then clicking on the blue “Renew selected items” button at the bottom of the page.

5. You may renew some of your materials by selecting the boxes next to the individual items you want renewed and then clicking on the blue “Renew selected items” button at the bottom of the page.

6. A new page will open to display a list of successfully renewed items and their new due dates. Also listed will be any items that were not renewed.

Please note: Some items, including DVDs, RED HOT READS and interlibrary loan materials, may not be renewed online. Please call the library at 860-444-5805 for help.

Reserve a meeting room

The library has meeting rooms available. The use of meeting rooms is at the sole discretion and timing of the library. 

Please read the library’s meeting room policy. All applications for use of meeting rooms must be made in person.

Suggest a purchase

Please let us know if there is a title you think the library should add to the collection. Each suggestion will be evaluated; if purchased, you will receive a notification when the title becomes available.

To suggest a purchase, send an e-mail to waterfordrequest@gmail.com and include the following information:

        • Title
        • Author(s)
        • Your name
        • Your library card number

Please note: requests with incomplete information cannot be processed.

Suspend a hold

1. Log in to the library catalog by entering your library card number and password/PIN (See Manage my online account for more information about your password/PIN).

2. Click on “My Account” in blue text on the top of the web page.

3. Click on “Review my account.”

4. Click on "Holds."

5. You may suspend all of your materials by selecting the “Select all” button.

6. Click "Suspend selected."

7. Fill in the suspension start and end dates by using the calendar button to the right of the input box.

8. Click "Suspend selected."

9. You will receive a confirmation screen if your changes have been successful. Click "OK" to return to your account information. If you need help, please call the library at 860-444-5805.
